Best Bollywood Movie Of The Year 2008 Is...

As the year ends ... and the one which wont be remembered a good one for Bollywood.. I would take an opportunity to analyze the movies released this year ,that I have seen.

If this particular movie would have been released In India... or by any chance would have been produced by an Indian ..... there was no doubt that I would have CROWNED this one as the best movie of the year. And I am talking about "Slumdog Millionaire" .

"What a player !!!" . Chuckles Anil Kapoor in the movie. I would say 'What A Movie" . Simply Great !!.
I loved the way Movie was conceived. A game show. A Rs 20 Million Prize. 15 Questions. And he had the answer to most of them. Not by Genius. By Destiny. It was just that his life leading to that Hotseat had answered him even before he knew the questions. Answer to each Each Question, a part his life. That's Destiny. Superb.

And here In US , Oscar talks are on. And its a Clear Leader. I just hope it wins.

Coming back to Bollywood.

Even though I have started writing this blog, I haven't yet decided my Top Ten List of Bollywood Movies for this Year. Shall I go for Top Ten? I guess not. It would be tough job. And I don't want an entry just for the sake of it. Best Five looks good.So chance are that I may miss something in my list. But as they say..'If you cant remember, don't try for the sake of it'.

The movies that I will be listing would be the one that made Impact. I wont go just for Great Direction, Great Story, Great Acting.....and all other Technicalities. My listing are based just On Impact of the movie, when you are watching and/or thereafter.

Well the one movie that comes to my mind when I write the word "Best" as prefix is "A Wednesday". Anupam Kher. Great Acting, with Simplicity. Great Narration too. Naseeruddin Shah. The Common Man. Great Job. Great Dialogues. My Favorite "Koi ******* Button Daba ke ye Decide Nahi Karega....... ". You don't hear the F word been used so effectively In Bollywood.
Even Jimmy Shergill delivered his best .There were loopholes . Some Illogical subplots (Actor being threat, A common man smarter than Police Hacker). But as Naseer says in film ,"Maine Tareeke Nahi Nateeje Ki Baare Me Soch Raha Hoon". The film relies on this. And it makes an Impact.
Great Movie. Good Job.

I hated this movie. I was let Down by SRK when I was watching this movie. I expected a lot ?? Or I didn't expect him to be different?? Cant say. But when I think about this movie I feel, It was good. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Good to be loved. Good to be different. And SRK. I love him. Film had my Idealogical Differences. But It had beauty to make me believe that I was wrong. In all Surender Sahani was common man. He behaved the way a simple man with self honour would behave. It was one of the movie when you should not expect Raj or Rahul to sing and dance. The film had Cliches. Irrelevant scenes (Bike Chase, Sumo fight, too much use of word 'Rab'). Which film doesn't have those flaws ""Taani Partner"" !!!. But it succeeded in capturing the simple , beautiful moments of life. A Husband hesitating to leave a Rose for his wife on table even though he dances with the Tiffin Box served by her. Well do watch it. Its worth.

Farhan Akhtar. He shares his last name with me. But that has nothing to do with my listing his movie in my best ones. Good work Farhan. Great Director. Good Actor. And Inspiring Singer. Rock On!!! There have been times when an Inspirational Movie in Bollywood meant, Hero winning Heroine, Hero Overcoming Villain. Well."Aur bhi Gham hai zamane me Mohabbat n Unke Dushmano ke siva". Rock On !!! succeeded where others have failed. It Inspired. It Inspired to be friends. Friends Forever. It Inspired to believe In yourself.
And the songs. Totally new to Bollywood, but they Rocked. Yes there were a few subplots inspired from another Milestone movie "Dil Chahata Hai", but they were used for good.
In the end movie said "Rock On !!! no matter what Song Is On.". And we did.

Well I started with List Of Ten. Then came to listing Five. And now I wonder , did i like any other movie as I loved these? I guess not.

So the final in my list::
A Wednesday, Rock On and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

But on any day I will go for "Slumdog Millionaire" .

  2. Hmm.....did you see one common thing abt most of movies mentioned above......the common man !...It seems ppl liked more these movies as they were able to relate to the character......every indian dreams to be millionaire....most of indians have feeling of helplessness on the problem of terrorism....(But don't dare to be like angry common man of a wednesday) .....And finally.....There seems to be a Mr Sahani in every house.....The movie theme was an impossible reallity....but it was like a colourful dream.....and really funny....and hence ..It Sells !
