Best Songs Of Year 2011

This year we had quite some movies crossing the 100 Crore benchmark. But musically I would say we didn't do that well.

Only No One Killed Jessica, Delhi Belly, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Rockstar were the best Albums in terms of Quality of Music. Then we had crowd pullers in Ready, Ra.One, etc.

Here is my list of best songs of the Year, in alphabetical Order, compiled solely based on what I having been listening all over the year.

Bhaag DK Bose [Delhi Belly]
Ram Sampath
Ram Sampath

What the Hell... !!! That was my first reaction.
Similar to one I had for 'Munni Badnaam Hui' from Dabangg.

Just like 'Munni....' this one is inspired from a 'swear phrase' used in Eastern UP and Bihar.

Rarely we have enjoyed a song which has made tricky use of swearword !!.
Full Credit to Ram Sampath for delivering this 'Katora...which indeed turned out Kuaan" ....!!!

Along with 'Bedardi Raja', 'Sweety Sweety' & 'Saigal Blues' this one is a Path Breaking Album !!

Darling [7 Khoon Maaf]
Vishal Bhardwaj
Usha Uthup & Rekha Bhardwaj

One of the most underrated song of the year. But very amazingly composed and choreographed. Full Of Life !!!

Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar's combination works again .....and quite emphatically this time with the high energy of Usha Uthup and Rekha Bhardwaj.

___________________________________________________________
Dilli [No One Killed Jessica]
Amit Trivedi
Tochi Raina & Shriram Iyer

A song for Dilli walas !!!

Gonna Treasure this one along with 'Ye Dilli Hai Mere Yaar' (Delhi 6) and ' Dilli' by Rabbi Shergill (Delhi Heights) .

Full of energy , sarcasm and lots of noise !! 'Saruri Dilli' , 'Mui Dilli' .. loved it !!
The song with its lyrics cuts through you .. just like the city does..sometime .

Superbly composed by Amit Trivedi , touching the right notes of Dilli and amazing words used by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

___________________________________________________________
Nasha (Dil Dosti Yaari) [Shaitan]
Prashant Pillai
Prashant Pillai, Bindu Nambiar

This song is celebration of friendship. Breezy, Catchy and simply Joyful.
Got hooked to this one instantaneously !!!

Dil Ko Dhadakne Do [Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara]
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
Shankar Mahadevan, Suraj Jagan, Joi Barua

Just like the movie, songs are youthful, rich with ever evolving lyrics of Jawed Akhtar. Another superb album from Shanker-Ehsaan-Loy , just in line with Dil Chahta Hai , Kal Ho Naa Ho, Rock On.

Kab tak ginein hum dhadkane , dil jaise dhadke dhadakne do
Kyun hai koi aag dabi, shola jo bhadke bhadakne do .......

You just want to be a car with old friends ....and go on and on .....

___________________________________________________________
Ik Junoon (Paint It Red) [Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara]
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
Shankar Mahadevan, Suraj Jagan, Joi Barua

Another one from the album. Super Cool Music .. pepped with nice words and full of freshness.
And the best part ..its choreography .. simply awesome feeling !!!

Sab Zanjeerein Tod Ke Sare Uljhan Chhod Ke
Hum Hain, Dil Hai Aur Hai Aawaragi

Kuch Din Se Hum Log Par Aata Hai Sab Ko Nazar
Aaya Hai Jo Daur Naya Hai Aawaragi

It simply echos your fantasy . The things that you Imagine you should be doing when you are in office ...at your boring work.

___________________________________________________________
Kun Faya Kun [Rockstar]
A R Rahman
A. R. Rahman, Javed Ali, Mohit Chauhan

Most Soulful song of the year. The best I have heard of A R Rahman since Arziyaan (Delhi 6).

Jab Kahin Pe Kuch Nahin Bhi nahin tha......

Simply Divine and Sublime. Listen you it when you are alone.....

___________________________________________________________
Oooh La La [The Dirty Picture]
Vishal-Shekhar
Bappi Lahiri & Shreya Ghoshal

Raunchy !!!
A tribute to the mindless 80s music when Bappi Lahiri ruled the Charts and songs where choreographed with 100 some dancers and Apples , Oranges and Colors thrown over the heroines  Ala Himmatwala , Mawali, etc.

___________________________________________________________
Sadda Haq [Rockstar]
A R Rahman
Mohit Chauhan

Probably Best Album Of The Year. Enough has been said about it..... but just not enough !!
Thrilling lyrics by Irshad Kamil , Rebellious and superb work on Guitar by Orianthi

But the hero of the songs is Mohit Chauhan. Huge leap for him from his soft romantic songs.

Tum logon ki, iss duniya mein, Har kadam pe, insaan ghalat
Main sahi samajh ke jo bhi karoon, Tum kehte ho ghalat !
Main ghalat hoon toh phir kaun sahi,
Marzi se jeene ki bhi main, Kya tum sabko arzi doon
Matlab ki tum sab ka mujh pe, Mujh se bhi zyada haq hai

Sadda Haq Aithe Rakh !!!

___________________________________________________________
Saibu [Shor In The City]
Sachin-Jigar
Shreya Ghoshal & Tochi Raina

Love Track of the year from one of the most low profile album. Shreya Ghoshal croons as beautiful as she has ever. And Sachin-Jihar, an unkown face in Indian Music , delivers a very mesmerizing and soft melody.

The variation in terms of instruments is something to watch out for in the song.
And I love the part when it goes .."Dheere Dheere..."

___________________________________________________________
Sadi Gali [Tanu Weds Manu]
RDB
Lehember Hussainpuri

Nobody can imagine an Indian Wedding without a punjabi number and Sadi gali of Lehember Hussainpuri is must in the play list. Sung in a mood of full celebration the song makes you stand up and let yourself go !!

Couldn't have missed the the only wedding number in the list.

Tum Ho [Rockstar]
A R Rahman
Mohit Chauhan.

Most romantic song of the Year. Sadda Haq and Kun Faya Kun grew on me but this one ...I fell in love with this one.......instantly.

Mohit Chauhan's one of the best love songs.

___________________________________________________________
Yeh Saali Zindagi [Yeh Saali Zindagi]
Nishat Khan
Sunidhi Chauhan & Shilpa Rao

How could you not like a song that echos the life we live ....

'Zindagi pe tera mera kisi ka na zor hai Hum sochte hai kuch wo saali sochti kuch aur hai, Yeh zindagi .............Ye saali zindagi'.

Another underrated Album of the Year.

  1. gr8, I can see your passion translating: Bollywood+cricket. One suggestion try & include few of the indian subcontinent's bands too, guess i would make it complete.
